% of the crops are gone. >> sreenivasan: the typhoon is now swirling over the south china sea. it's expected to break up by the weekend. washington state is now the first state in the nation where recreational use of marijuana, by adults, is legal. the new law was approved by voters last month, and took effect at midnight. in seattle, about 100 people marked the occasion by smoking joints beneath the city's iconic space needle. technically, doing that in public remains against the law. marijuana is still illegal under federal law. but the justice department has not said if it will try to block the washington state law or a similar statute in colorado. same-sex marriage also became legal in washington state today, and in maryland. gay and lesbian couples in both states began picking up marriage licenses. those in washington state have to wait three days to be married. same-sex weddings in maryland will begin on january first. maine will legalize the practice on december 29. the three states are the first to approve same-sex marriage by popular vote. in economic news, new jobless claims fell s

of the coverage, china thinks the bickering in the u.s. is irresponsible. the people's daily says especially coming from a country that often tells other nations to be responsible. of course that's a big mouth piece for the communist party, that particular newspaper. heading across the pond to our friends in the uk, the financial times is blaming the g.o.p. for the inability to reach a deal thus far. and some german newspapers have started comparing the u.s. to greece. i've got to tell you, that's not really the fairest of comparisons. for the record, the headline in the post was, the rest of the world thinks the fiscal cliff is ridiculous. i think a lot of people here would agree with that headline. >> it's interesting -- i heard a report about it calling it slow, too, that it would take effect gradually. let's just get it done. >>> bright but brisk today and cold again tonight. >> will it get milder? a big football game for this region coming up this weekend. howard will have the answer when we return. two big football games in fact. your weather coming up after this gorgeous shot of the s

taking share in china, all the big carriers will be selling it and an omg product might be on the way. the market capitalization will still be outsized versus the rest of the market and that i don't like. there's nothing you can do about the rest of the market, right? as we settled three times today, if you want to measure the selloff here, use the 12 days of christmas approach. three nikes, four price lines, eight dells, nine coaches, ten may cy's, 11 ralph laurens, 12 mattells and a partridge and pear tree and it's still a $1 billion company. it goes down $100 billion in cash and plus it's growing. the price to earnings multiple, the apples to apples method so to speak will be the lowest in the whole s&p 500. that can and is happening. valuation will get so cheap that apple will be too compelling for informed people not to own. the company's not going to sell through all of the cash and respective cash and this company is one gigantic atm machine. and guess what? the chart with the nauseating terminology will be meaningless at that point. the technology, not the technicals will agai
